Armed robber may be headed north

Police believe Vaughan grocery store robber may have been seen recently near Huntsville

York Regional Police believe a suspect wanted in an armed robbery at a grocery store in the City of Vaughan may be headed north, and possibly was sighted near Huntsville.  

On Tuesday, September 17,  shortly after 8 a.m., police responded to a report of an armed robbery that occurred at a grocery store in the area of Highway 27 and Langstaff Road. No-one was physically harmed.

Investigators say the man entered the store and approached a cashier.

He was armed with a handgun and made a demand for cash. The employee complied and the robber fled the area in a vehicle.

The suspect has been identified from images obtained through video surveillance and investigators are appealing to anyone with information on his whereabouts to come forward.

The robber is considered armed and dangerous and he should not be approached. Call 9-1-1 immediately if you spot him say police.

Police are searching for Shawn Chaulk, 54, no fixed address.

  • 5’9”, 160 lbs.
  • Short blonde hair
  • Scruffy beard
  • Described as having bad teeth
  • Armed with a handgun

He escaped in a blue, four-door Honda Civic.

Investigators from the Hold-Up Unit remind business owners of the importance of maintaining and updating video surveillance equipment. "Quality images help to identify suspects, can aid in arrests and have a tremendous impact during court proceedings."
