Amazing effort but heartbreak for Tyler Nicholson

Nicholson finished in the top 10 on his first jump but needed to score at least a 90.50 on his second and final jump to crack the top six which move on to the weekend final

Tyler Nicholson wowed the crowd and his Canadian teammates with his second jump but unfortunately, the North Bay native could not score high enough to qualify for Saturday's final in the Big Air snowboard competition which began with a pair of heats tonight (Wednesday morning) in PyeongChang.

Nicholson finished in the top 10 on his first jump but needed to score at least a 90.50 on his second and final jump to crack the top six which move on to the weekend final.

The North Bay native appeared to nail it on his second jump completing four full 360's but while Canadian announcers and teammates thought the jump was good enough, however, the judges did not, only scoring the impressive big air jump an 89.25.

His score in heat two left him in 7th spot, but those same numbers in the first heat would have seen Nicholson qualify in the third spot.  The top six in both heats move on to Friday night's final.

Nicholson's Canadian teammates Sebastien Toutant, Mark McMorris and Max Parrot all qualified for the Saturday Big Air final which will take place late Friday night eastern time in Ontario.

Nicholson can still hold his head high finishing with a 7th place finish in the slopestyle event and at only 22, the future is still very bright for the North Bay snowboarder.
