People with Alzheimer’s disease, dementia, an acquired brain injury, or an intellectual disability can now be added to an online registry monitored by the North Bay Police Service.

North Bay and Callander families and caregivers of vulnerable people can register their loved ones online at http://northbaypolice.ca/services/vulnerable-persons.

This voluntary and free Vulnerable Persons Online Registry is a community service for persons living with:

  • autism;
  • Alzheimer's disease or other dementia;
  • an acquired brain injury; or
  • an intellectual disability.

“In April 2011, the North Bay Police Service partnered with the North Bay and Area Chapter of Autism Ontario and Hands TheFamilyNetwork.ca, to launch an online autism registry,” said Chief Shawn Devine, North Bay Police Service. “We are pleased to announce today that we have extended the registry to include persons living with Alzheimer’s disease, dementia, an acquired brain injury, or an intellectual disability. Having quick and easy access to critical information that is specific to the needs of vulnerable persons is of great value to our officers, especially in emergency situations.”

The registry provides critical information such as a person’s description, routines, medical needs, favourite attractions, special needs and emergency contact information should an emergency arise.

Families and caregivers are encouraged to also submit a digital photo of the vulnerable person with their online registration and to update their file online every year on the birth month of the registrant.

The information is stored in a secure database that is accessible to police across the country, giving caregivers and parents piece of mind should they travel with the vulnerable person outside of North Bay and Callander.
