Here's an odd one.

On March 11, shortly before 3 p.m., East Algoma OPP were called to a single motor vehicle rollover on Highway 17 just east of the Township of North Shore.

A westbound vehicle drove off the roadway onto the shoulder, then swerved into the eastbound lane crossing the yellow line before swerving back into the westbound lane and down an embankment, rolling several times into a ditch.

While waiting for police, a good Samaritan helped two women by letting them sit in his vehicle.

As he left his vehicle the two women stole his car and sped westbound on Highway 17 towards Blind River. Police saw the stolen vehicle turn into Algoma Mills. Police quickly found the abandoned vehicle, and a search of the area found the two women who were quickly arrested.

Police say the vehicle involved in the rollover was stolen from Waterloo earlier in the day.

A 20 year old Kitchener woman was charged with:

  • Theft Under $5,000,
  • Possession of Proceeds Property Obtained by Crime Over $5000 (X2),
  • Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle,
  • Flight While Pursued by Peace Officer, and with
  • Fail to Comply with Probation Order

The other woman, aged 29,was taken to hospital in Sudbury with non-life threatening injuries.
