Update: now open, Accident closes Airport Road

A usually busy street is closed this morning.

The road was reopened around 3:30 p.m.

Airport Road, busy this time of the morning, is closed after an accident there around 7:30. Traffic is very backed up on Airport and people trying to get around the accident are getting turned back at the end of Golf Club Road where the accident occurred. (302 Airport)

BayToday reporter Chris Dawson says it appears a garbage truck and a car took out a hydro pole and hydro officials are assessing the scene.

One woman was seen getting into an ambulance, but injuries do not appear serious.

The westbound traffic on Airport Road has been diverted at O'Brien Street and is causing lots of congestion for the morning drive.

Police are on the scene for traffic control, and City workers have set up "road closed" signage and barricades.

A tweet from North Bay Hydro says it is aware of an outage in the Airport Rd. and McKeown Ave. area affecting approximately 380 customers. Power should be restored by 9 a.m. according to Hydro.

-----

An update at 8:20 from Hydro says the affected area has been partially restored.

"Approximately 100 customers on Golf Club Rd, Airport Rd, and Stockdale Rd will remain out of power until repairs to the broken pole is completed. The estimated restoration time is 3 p.m."
