The Canadore College Varsity Men's Basketball team has stayed close to home to pick up a pair of new recruits.

They have added John Henry Merkley, a guard from St. Joseph-Scollard Hall and Logan Roy, a guard/forward from Ecole secondaire Algonquin.

Stephen Hong, Head Coach for the Canadore Panthers, is excited to have John Henry and Logan part of their program.

"It's special to have two local players choose Canadore as I've seen their growth as leaders and student-athletes over numerous years at the high-school level and club basketball level for the North Bay Spartans," noted Hong.

"These two individuals are not only talented as they are both competitive and hard-working. This is a step in the right direction as we build the program here at Canadore College."

Merkley will attend Canadore enrolling in the Strength and Conditioning program.

"I chose Canadore as I have always had the dream of not only playing college basketball but for a hometown program," said Merkley.

"My strengths are shooting, quickness and high IQ. I bring an ability to elevate others' game and life off the court."

Roy, who is part of the Criminal Justice program, chose Canadore because it is a good fit for him academically and athletically.

"A  big part of my decision was the fact that I will be staying home to play the sport that I love," admitted Roy.

"I've always wanted to play basketball at the next level, and I believe Canadore Men's Basketball is the best place for me to do so.

"I am a very hard-working player that can rebound and defend. I'm determined to get better and give 110 per cent effort during practice and in games."
