24 charges laid in two-day snowmobile check

A two-day snowmobile initiative was completed by police to promote safety on area trails over the first weekend of the March break.

On March 10 and 11, North Bay OPP officers with the assistance of the OPP Snowmobile, All-Terrain Vehicle and Vessel Enforcement Unit patrolled area trails and waterways in the North Bay Detachment area.

A total of 367 MSV drivers were stopped.

  • 28 warnings under the Motorized Snow Vehicles Act (MSVA)
  • 24 drivers were given Mandatory Alcohol Screening Demand
  • 24 charges were issued under the MSVA - including speeding, drivers failing to produce documentation, and failing to have proper safety equipment such as helmets
  • One criminal code charge of impaired
