23 partiers charged with COVID offenses at a single event by Kirkland Lake OPP

Kirkland Lake OPP say they charged 23 party-goers after a report of a large gathering at a house on Harding Avenue in that town Sunday in contravention of the Emergency Management and Civil Protection Act (EMCPA).

All 23 are charged with "Individual - Fail to Comply the Reopening Ontario Act. 

Attendees were obviously unhappy with the visit, as two of the 23 were also charged with obstructing a peace officer.  

An occupant of the house has also been charged with failing to comply by hosting or organizing a gathering not authorized.

In a separate incident, on Saturday Kirkland Lake OPP stopped a vehicle on Highway 112 in Otto Township

There were four people in the vehicle and the investigation revealed that they were from different households and travelling for non-essential purpose in contravention of the Emergency Management and Civil Protection Act.

As a result, the four were charged with "Individual - Fail to Comply with the Reopening Ontario Act 

The detachment also reports that on May 1, Kirkland Lake OPP officers investigated the circumstances surrounding a protest that was held at Kinross Pond in Kirkland Lake.

"The investigation revealed that the protest was held in contravention of the Emergency Management and Civil Protection Act." says an OPP release.

As a result, eight people have been charged with " Individual - Fail to Comply with the Reopening Ontario Act.

Meanwhile, Ontario is considering extending a stay-at-home order set to expire next week.

The move would keep thousands of businesses closed and outdoor recreational facilities shut, despite critics saying the latter would help boost deteriorating mental health among residents.
