Letter: Sticking up for Team Canada’s Ben Gaudreau

‘Our local goalie Ben Gaudreau has already achieved something 99.9 per cent of the population will never attain...and I suspect he is not done yet!’

World Junior Hockey Goaltender Challenge!

Are You Up For It?

My guess is 99.9 per cent of the population will never play goal for Team Canada in the world junior hockey championships. I am not a mathematician...actually my worst subject in school!

However, if you are reading this I suspect you have seen Conner Bedard shoot a hockey puck...have you ever thought about how difficult a task it would be to stop it? Outside of the technical, physical and tactical skills a goalie requires to play at a high level, he/she must also be able to deal with the mental and emotional pressure of playing the position. I believe any goalie, at any level who wears the pads deserves our respect. When you wear the pads for our national team...that respect must be biggie sized no matter the outcome!

My Challenge To You!

When you are watching the world junior games, if any person says "the goalie should have had that," I will personally supply the equipment and a shooter from the Voodoos, Battalion or the Lakers (your choice) so that person can demonstrate how the shot could have been stopped...free of charge!

PS I am pretty sure I can get Lucas Edmonds from the Tampa Bay Lightning organization to shoot on you in the off-season…now there is a kid that can shoot!!!

Goalies at every level deserve respect and support for a position that I regard as one of the most challenging in sport! Our local goalie Ben Gaudreau has already achieved something 99.9 per cent of the population will never attain...and I suspect he is not done yet!

If you care...feel free to share and in doing so show your support for Ben and all goalies!

Sincerely,

Dr. Rob Graham
Goalie Coach
