To the editor:

As a retired educator with the Near North Board, I am displeased that this body of elected officials would waste their energies pursuing a name change for Chippewa when the issue has already been addressed several years ago. At that time all parties involved, including the local indigenous community, were satisfied with the changes implemented. What has changed?

I would suggest the Board make better use of its resources to provide support for all students and staff who are struggling in today’s world. The system needs to walk the talk when it comes to providing a positive educational experience and a welcoming work environment for its employees. Money spent preparing a consultative report and financially implementing that report would best be used in the classroom.

Thank you,

Bill Carr
