To the editor:

I left North Bay a few years ago after visiting friends and family in small-town southern Ontario and realizing there is very little in North Bay for active seniors without paying high fees to join groups.

My new small town offers more than just sports activities and it’s all free. The seniors complex here puts Memorial Gardens to shame.

North Bay is more interested in satisfying the local jocks and ignoring its valuable seniors. Both the school boards and council seem to ignore seniors, and besides the obvious lack of transparency, do not listen to the people. They are content with the status quo and any decision made is forced upon us mostly behind closed doors and to satisfy someone’s personal agenda.

For once my taxes are being used where I can actually benefit from the results. No regrets.

St Marys is a beautiful town. Lots to do for seniors. Senior's centre has an Olympic pool, two ice pads, three open gyms for pickleball, exercise classes, carpet bowling, two craft rooms, a walking loop, a dining room, meals on wheels service, and ball room.

My fee is $45 yearly membership. The population is only 7,800. with three golf courses and with bus service.
