Letter to the editor: Doug Ford, the Landlord Tenant board needs change

This is an email I sent Doug Ford about change that needs to happen.

Good Morning Mr. Premier

My name is Nikole Clements. This past summer I moved to North Bay ON from Wheatley, ON. My husband and I bought a house and lived in our trailer waiting to take possession of it on September 7th.

Nothing went as planned.

The owner's ex-husband had been renting a room from her but because she lived in Alberta he decided it was okay to take over the entire house instead of just one room. The day we were to take possession he would not leave and our lawyer would not close on the deal with him occupying the property.

Fast forward two months later and we are still living in hotel rooms and cottages because he will not leave. We closed on the property on October 15th in hopes he would leave but hasn't.

We have involved the OPP but they say there's only so much they can do because the LTB does not allow them to interfere with matters like this.

We have spoken to our legal aid and have been informed that because he only is supposed to be renting a room we have every right to move into the house and remove his belongings from the common area of the house and give him written notice of eviction. She told us this does not fall under the LTB .

My reason for this email is in hopes that something changes for people like myself to be able to receive more help from authorities and not just have to deal with the LTB. We have spent over $10,000 in two months for hotel rooms and cottages which was money we had for renovations.

It's not fair that so many landlords have lost everything because of bad tenants who decide to stop paying rent and refuse to leave. There needs to be more help other than just the LTB who are talking months and months to help.

Please give the Police authorization to help in these matters.

Nikole Clements
