Letter: More people with compassion needed downtown

When was the last time a minister or priest showed his face in the downtown core to talk to people, recruit, and be a part of the misery we all feel every day?

To the editor:

This is in regards to the homeless and drug population of North Bay.

We have a lot of wonderful churches and congregations in North Bay, who I understand, may be struggling as well to help the needs of the community.

But when, was the last time a minister or priest showed his face in the downtown core to talk to people, recruit, and be a part of the misery we all feel every day?

And we also have a lot of not for profit that lock the doors at times or refuse service and seldom, go on the street to help people, unless sometimes it is for a media opportunity that leads to funding for the staff, but not the people on the street.

We are all afraid at times, but we need the people with compassion the most on the streets right now.

When you fill the streets with people who care, investment follows, the drugs go elsewhere and people find homes and new beginnings from the community who gather in unison.

We need that now, more than ever, and we are better than this.
