Letter: Detours for accidents need better planning

To the editor:

An unfortunate accident happened this week between North Bay and Sturgeon Falls.

As a result, the highway was closed for several hours and traffic was directed to detour via 11 and 64 - not a problem.

I was leaving North Bay using 17B (Main St. west)  A long lineup to reach 17 but nothing at that point to direct traffic so I headed west including many others including a fuel tanker (double tanks)

When we finally got to the top of the hill in front of Necessities the police had blocked the highway and told us we had to turn around and take the detour. I had to do a 180 and so did that tanker.

If the police had been at the 17 and 17B intersection everyone would have been on their way (turned right) rather than taking the better part of an hour to be told to turn around.

Just common sense and making the best out of a bad situation.
