Letter: Another night without shuteye, my mind is so busy

Oh, how I'd like to turn off my mind, and sleep even for a while or two

A good bed will help you sleep,
Since the Pandemic came upon us, many of our neighbors have been experiencing difficulty sleeping. Sleep deprivation over time is the cause of many an accident at work, at home, and on the roads as well.

Seniors normally experience a change to their sleep patterns over time, doing well with 4-5 hours a night. The active child and youth require eight hours of slumber. Insufficient sleep among their populations costs the OECD Countries up to $680 billion annually in lost labor, health concerns, and accidents. With the loss of sleep comes exhaustion, loss of natural body motion, psychological difficulties and anti-social conditions. Save a life!  Invest into the maintenance of your sleep, as you do your daily lifestyle.

Another night without shuteye
just can't sleep even a bit.
My mind is so very busy
and it just won't seem to Kwit.

The day goes on as a burden
less energy as I once had.
I eat right, exercise regularly
and yet my nights give me no pause.

Oh, how I'd like to turn off my mind
and sleep even for a while or two.
Thoughts appear in my subconscious
and once that happens all is a lost cause.

Doctors want me on medication,
"You need 8 hours of sleep friend".
But medicine makes me whizzy,
feeling like I just drank a bottle or two.

A friend suggested preparing for sleep,
meditation, training to stop the clock within.
I heard Napolean could snooze anytime,
how I wish a nap during the day was possible once again.

Sleep for an hour or two and off I go,
as my partner sleeps, I wish not to wake.
Once walking about its all over,
the gates of the kingdom of sleep closed.

Once awake one needs to be active,
so, attempting sleep ends for the day.
Oh Morpheus, God of Sleep and Dreams
give me a break and let me sleep once again.
