INSIDE THE VILLAGE: This episode is definitely a big one

First, a big congratulations to our Village Media journalists whose excellent work earned Canadian Online Publishing Awards. After that, some breaking news from our favourite Bigfoot hunter

Welcome back to Inside the Village, a one-of-a-kind podcast where all news is local — and no topic is off-limits.

It's fair to say this is a pretty big episode.

First, a big round of applause for our Village Media journalists who won silver medals at the latest Canadian Online Publishing Awards (COPA).

Heidi Ulrichsen of Sudbury.com was honoured in the "Best Continuing Coverage of a Story" category for her relentless reporting on Laurentian University's downward spiral into creditor protection.

And in the Columns category, the silver went to a trio of Village Media's "Big Reads":

Saving the Great Lakes, one laundry load at a time, by CollingwoodToday editor Erika Engel.

Finding Emma, a residential school victim who never came home, by SooToday's James Hopkin.

How short-term vacation rentals are ruining the neighbourhood, by Marg. Bruineman of BarrieToday.

Also on the big show this week: Chasing Bigfoot.

Remember Ryan Willis? He joined Inside the Village last year to talk about his pet project: the Trent University Sasquatch Society, whose members spend their spare time searching for signs of Bigfoot. Ryan is back on the podcast — with some pretty big news.

No, he hasn’t found Sasquatch yet. But he’s definitely found something.

Hosted by Scott Sexsmith and Michael Friscolanti, the Editor-in-Chief of Village Media, Inside the Village is a news and current affairs podcast that provides a weekly window into some of the best local journalism from across our chain of Ontario newsrooms. Produced by Derek Turner, the program also explores bigger-picture issues that impact people across the province.
