Sheri Marceau is one of those bubbly people you see at a lot of fundraisers, community events and awareness efforts. But her passion is helping the effort to ensure kids, no matter what their family's finances, can enjoy sports.

Sheri can be found at most Battalion games at Memorial Gardens working on behalf of North Bay Kidsport, at the 50-50 table where half the funds go to the good cause and half go to the bearer of the winning ticket.

She was first attracted to getting involved because of her and her son's love of hockey.

"I realized this would be a perfect fit for me as I had spent numerous hours at the arena when my son was playing hockey and since his days of competitive hockey were over, I was missing something and wanted to become involved. You don’t realize how much you miss the environment until you are no longer “required” to be there, she explains.

Marceau says it was a natural progression to see if she could bring her enthusiasm to the two latest large-scale curling events in the community, 2018's World Women's Event, as well as this fall's Pinty's Grand Slam of Curling.

"For the World’s Women’s event, you had to pay to volunteer which hindered a few of my fellow 50/50 sellers but this led me to meet a whole new crew that learned quickly how much fun this is to do and the joy of competition amongst the sellers! After this successful event, the board from the Granite Club quickly invited me back to help out in our second event, the Pinty’s event, in a bigger role helping organize the system and train our even newer sellers! I am very proud of being able to help out in this capacity," adds Marceau.

She says her reason for working with Kidsport is very personal.

"My reason for choosing North Bay Kidsport to be my passion is that it has so many benefits and offers so many opportunities for the youth of our community. When I was a young mom, I wasn’t wealthy by any means, so we looked for financial support in many different ways to help achieve the cost to have my son Adam play sports. North Bay Kidsport was not around back then... now that it is here, I enjoy knowing that I am helping out families who really need this help," she says.

Marceau says they always need more helpers "We are always looking for more volunteers, you do not have to work every game and you are free to select the games you wish to help out with."
