The setting for Ricochets and Splinters, a new mystery series on BayToday.

We're up for almost anything here at BayToday so we thought we'd try something a little different.

We're going to give local authors the chance to have their stories published in our column section under the name of Second Saturday Stories.

To kick off, we'll include it in our news section also, and future chapters will be found under the tab "Columns." Let us know what you think.

We're starting with local writer Mark French, and he'll also manage the site.

For fans of hard-boiled detective mysteries, Second Saturday Stories offers a tale told in six parts. Murder, lost love, crime, and conspiracy are all brought together as the story unfolds every second Saturday. Don’t miss part one debuting today at 3 p.m.

Century City, 1942. A hub in northeastern Ontario. A place where a lot of people will look the other way for the right price. A city where you can get away with just about anything while the world is distracted by a war overseas.

Through the fog of amnesia Eddie Banner struggles to piece together the whereabouts of a woman in a cryptic photograph, remember who he is, and why he feels a sense of deep foreboding when he looks at the photo. Starting in the forest that borders the city, the tranquillity is broken by gunfire as Eddie narrowly escapes a watery grave. Eddie’s search for answers will lead him to dark corners of the city and beyond where everyone he meets is willing to kill to keep him quiet.

The closer he gets to finding out who he is and the circumstances of the woman’s disappearance, the more Eddie will come to realize why some secrets should stay buried.

Give it a read. Let us know what you think.
