Door-to-door sales alert
The North Bay Police Service alerts the pubic to a number of salespersons who are currently in North Bay conducting business door to door, in an attempt to sell water filtration systems, furnaces and air conditioners.
These salespersons are presenting themselves as representatives of Ontario Standard Home Services. They do not have a municipal license to conduct business in the City of North Bay and have been ordered to cease all operations.
In accordance with Consumer Protection Ontario, the Consumer Protection Act gives you rights when you buy a product more than $50 from a door-to-door salesperson:
“As a consumer, you:
have the right to cancel a contract for any reason within a 10-day cooling-off period. For water heater contracts, there is a 20-day cooling-off period
must get a written contract: under the Consumer Protection Act, a consumer contract has to include specific information about the goods or service and your rights as a consumer. If it doesn’t, you can cancel the contract within 1 year of signing
If you have questions or concerns about any door-to-door experiences you have had and are looking for advice on your rights, call Consumer Protection Ontario toll-free at 1-800-889-9768. TTY users call 416-229-6086 (TTY GTA) or 1-877-666-6545.”

However, if you choose to keep the item that was delivered late, you lose your right to get a refund for it. You also can’t be charged for receiving an item or service that you did not request.”
