Sudbury man faces charges following single-vehicle collision
Yesterday morning, following an investigation into a 9-1-1 call from a witness reporting a single-vehicle collision on Fisher Street, North Bay Police arrested and charged the male driver.
Under Canada’s Criminal Code, Tyler Spanish, age 22, of Sudbury was charged with:
One count of theft of motor vehicle;
One count of possession of marijuana; and
One count of driving with more than 80 mg of alcohol in blood
He was also issued a summons for the offence of “drive motor vehicle – no licence,” contrary to Ontario’s Highway Traffic Act.
It is alleged that sometime between the evening of Jan. 16 and the early morning hours of Jan. 17, 2017, the accused, who is unlicensed, took a pick-up truck from Sudbury without the registered owner’s consent. Shortly before 6 a.m. on Tuesday Jan. 17, while the accused was driving in an allegedly impaired state, he lost control of the stolen vehicle and collided into a sign located on the front property of a retail business on the 700 block of Fisher Street.
The vehicle was extensively damaged as a result of the collision. Following a search of his person and of the vehicle after his arrest, police seized a small quantity of marijuana.
The accused was held in custody for a bail hearing.
