Man faces charges related to recent break-in

While on general patrol in the area of Worthington Street at Ferguson Street shortly after 3 a.m. this morning, North Bay Police observed a man riding a bicycle without a light on and wearing the same clothing and face covering of a suspect caught on video following a break-in at a North Bay restaurant on Hammond Street on Sept. 21, 2016.

When police approached the man, he immediately fled the scene on his bicycle. Police then observed him discarding a crowbar, abandoning his bicycle, and running through residential backyards. Shortly thereafter, police located and arrested him in the 100 block of Worthington Street East. Following an investigation, which included locating and seizing the discarded crowbar, police arrested and charged the suspect with the following offences.

Under the Criminal Code, Jeffrey Parker, age 44, formerly of Oshawa, was charged with:
One count of break and enter and commit;
One count of disguise with intent;
One count of trespassing at night; and
One count of possession of break-in instrument.

He was also issued two Part III summons under the Highway Traffic Act for:
improper light on bicycle; and
cyclist fail to stop.

The accused was held in custody awaiting a bail hearing today. The investigation continues.
