Man charged with extortion

Early Saturday morning, following an investigation into an extortion complaint, North Bay Police arrested and charged a 23-year old Haileybury man with:
One count of extortion;
One count of theft under $5,000; and
One count of breach of recognizance.

A few days ago, a woman lost her wallet while she was at the movies. The accused, a man unknown to her, later found the wallet. Shortly before 9 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 7, the accused, who had found the woman’s profile on a social media website, contacted her through the site to ask her if she had lost her wallet. After the woman confirmed that she was the owner of the lost wallet, it is alleged that the accused proceeded to ask for sexual favours in exchange for the wallet’s return. The woman agreed to meet the accused at a designated time and place, but did not show up. She immediately informed police of the online exchange.

Shortly after 1:30 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 8, 2016, police, who arrived in an unmarked vehicle at the location where the accused had arranged to meet the victim, arrested him on site. Police recovered the woman’s wallet from the accused and transported him to police headquarters, where he was held in custody for a bail hearing.

Domestic dispute leads to charges

On Friday evening, following an investigation into a traffic complaint, North Bay Police arrested and charged a 34-year-old Corbeil man with:
One count of impaired operation of a motor vehicle;
One count of uttering threats;
One count of assault with intent to resist arrest;
One count of possession of a controlled substance; and
One count of drive with more than 80 mgs of alcohol in blood.

It is alleged that on Friday, October 7th, 2016 at about 7 p.m., the accused drove impaired to his former partner’s North Bay residence. A verbal dispute between the two outside the residence turned violent when he threatened her. Police then attended the scene in response to a concerned citizen’s call about an erratic driver. While police were placing him under arrest, the accused refused to comply. Once police gained control of the accused, he was brought into custody. A police search of his vehicle after his arrest revealed that he was in possession of a small amount of marijuana.

The accused was held in custody for a bail hearing.

Foot patrol investigation leads to charge

While on foot patrol shortly after 2 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 8, 2016, North Bay Police stopped a man who was in the driver’s seat of a parked vehicle on Delaware Avenue.

Following an investigation, police arrested and charged the 34-year-old North Bay man with one count of care or control of vehicle with more than 80 mgs of alcohol in blood.

The man was later released with a court date scheduled for Oct. 25, 2016.

Family dispute leads to charges

Following an investigation into a family dispute that took place on Saturday, North Bay Police arrested and charged a 47-year-old North Bay man with:
One count of uttering threats;
One count of impaired operation of a motor vehicle;
One count of drive with over 80 mgs of alcohol in blood; and
Once count of fail to stop for police.

Shortly after 9:15 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 8, 2016, North Bay Police responded to a 911 call from a complainant reporting a family dispute. It is alleged that the accused, who had left the scene in his vehicle in an impaired state before police arrived, threatened a family member after a heated argument. The accused, who had failed to stop for police while driving his vehicle, was arrested following a short police pursuit and traffic stop.

The accused was later released from custody with a court date scheduled for Oct. 25, 2016.
