A West Nipissing driver has been arrested and charged after trying to avoid a Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere (R.I.D.E.) program.

Last night Nipissing West OPP officers were conducting a R.I.D.E. program on Highway 64 when a vehicle was seen avoiding the checkpoint.

The vehicle was quickly located and stopped and the driver was found to have an outstanding warrant for theft, and was arrested.

The vehicle also had unauthorized plates and was uninsured.

Michael Larabie, 29, is charged with:

  • Theft under $5,000
  • Operate a motor vehicle without insurance
  • Use a plate not authorized for the vehicle

Larabie was released on an appearance notice and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice on January 5, 2023, in West Nipissing.
