UPDATE: Man faces charges following break and enter, and assault with a weapon
The following is an update to yesterday’s media release.
Following an investigation into a break and enter and assault with a weapon that occurred at a downtown North Bay residence on Wednesday morning, North Bay Police arrested and charged:
Nathan Omer Carriere, age 22, of North Bay with:
One count of break, enter and commit an indictable offence;
One count of assault;
One count of forcible confinement;
One count of assault with a weapon;
One count of possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose;
Three counts of assault police; and
Two counts of breach of conditional sentence order.
It is alleged that on Wednesday, May 11 at approximately 5 a.m., the accused entered the unit of a residential building. The female resident awoke to the noise he made on entry. She immediately called 9-1-1 and went to a nearby room, where, it is alleged the accused assaulted her young child. When the woman intervened to protect her child, it is alleged the accused held a kitchen knife to her to prevent her from escaping. The woman then instructed her two young children to run to the neighbours’ residence, where they escaped to safely. It is also alleged that the accused, who was still holding a knife at the time, dragged the woman outside.
Police arrived at the scene and observed them both exit. The accused then fled the scene on foot.
Following a short pursuit, police located the accused on the 600 block of Cassells Street.
The accused, who assaulted police before and after his arrest, remains in custody and will appear in court for a show cause hearing today. Prior to this occurrence, he was unknown to the victims, who required medical treatment for their non-life-threatening injuries.

The North Bay Police Service informs the public that random acts of violence such as the one described above are rare occurrences in our community. Police rely on the help of members of this community to inform police when people and property are at risk. Call 9-1-1 immediately to report a crime in progress or about to occur, for a situation where serious injury can occur, and for any suspicious activity. Police also advise residents to lock the doors of their homes and vehicles.
