Hit and run leads to charges

North Bay Police were dispatched to Spencer Avenue yesterday evening, following a 9-1-1 call reporting a hit and run.

As a result of the investigation, a 41-year-old man, from Barrie, Ontario, was arrested and charged with the following violations, all under the Criminal Code:
One count of fail to stop at scene of accident;
One count of driving motor vehicle while ability impaired by alcohol; and
One count of driving with more than 80 mgs of alcohol in 100 ml of blood.

It is alleged that on Mar. 8, 2017 at about 10:30 p.m., while the accused was leaving the parking lot of a licenced establishment in a pickup truck, he struck a parked pickup truck, causing damage. He then fled the scene. A witness immediately called 9-1-1. North Bay Police located the suspected vehicle and the accused at a local motel, where he was arrested. He was then transported to police headquarters where he was tested for impairment and charged. The accused was later released from custody with a court date scheduled for Mar. 21, 2017.
