Threat complaint leads to firearms charges

Police determined a person was assaulted and threatened with death. A firearm was also located by police and a cruiser was damaged by the person following his arrest

 A man on probation and a release order for weapons offences was arrested for assault with a weapon, and firearms in Baldwin Township.

On March 7, at 3:34 p.m., the Manitoulin Espanola OPP responded to a threat complaint at a residence on Highway 17.

During the investigation, police determined a person was assaulted and threatened with death. A firearm was also located by police and a cruiser was damaged by the person following their arrest.

Joshua Fraser, 33, from Baldwin Township just north of Espanola, is charged with:

  • Assault with a weapon
  • Utter threats to cause death or bodily harm
  • Failure to comply with Release Order other than to attend court
  • Fail to comply with a probation order
  • Two counts of possessing a firearm or ammunition contrary to a prohibition order 
  • Causing a disturbance
  • Mischief under $5,000

Fraser was released from custody following a bail hearing and is scheduled to appear on April 17, at the Ontario Court of Justice in Espanola.
