Man accused of pointing a replica handgun faces several charges

On the afternoon of Saturday, Mar. 18, 2017, while on general patrol, a North Bay Police officer observed a man stumbling in the roadway at John and McIntyre Street East. The officer exited his cruiser and, after speaking with the man and observing signs of intoxication, arrested him for his own safety. A search after his arrest revealed that he was carrying a black replica handgun and a small amount of marijuana that police seized as evidence.

While his arrest was taking place, a complainant contacted police to report a suspicious man, matching the description of the accused, who had been sitting on the porch of a residence on Main Street East, pointing what was believed to be a handgun. The complainant had also observed the man leave the residence on foot.

As a result of both investigations, North Bay Police charged a 23-year-old man with:
One count of possession of marijuana;
One count of unauthorized possession of a firearm;
One count of pointing a firearm; and
Two counts of breach of probation.

The accused, who was also charged with being intoxicated in a public place under Ontario’s Liquor Licence Act, was held in custody for a Weekends and Statutory Holidays (W.A.S.H.) Court hearing.
