Child pornography investigation

Following a complaint received last week, the North Bay Police Service is currently investigating the distribution of child pornography images that have been captured and shared among pre-teens and teens who are students at five North Bay intermediate and secondary schools.

A message to parents and guardians
The North Bay Police Service encourages parents and guardians to inform their children that any sexually explicit photograph or video of a person under 18 years of age that is captured, saved, distributed or shared is child pornography and it’s against the law. Under the Criminal Code of Canada, possessing, accessing, making, distributing and making available child pornography comes with a 90-day mandatory sentence.

Over the weekend, the North Bay Police Service responded to 227 calls for service and arrested and charged three people with the following offences:
One person was charged with one count of assault causing bodily harm and one count of breach of probation;
One person was charged with one count of sexual assault and one count of forcible confinement;
One person was charged with two counts of breach of probation.

Man faces charges following domestic dispute

Following an investigation into a domestic violence incident on Sunday, North Bay Police arrested and charged:

A 28-year-old North Bay man with:
One count of assault causing bodily harm; and
One count of breach of probation.

It is alleged that a verbal dispute between the accused and his common-law partner in their shared residence on Sunday, April 17, 2016 at approximately 1 a.m. turned violent when he hit her. The victim suffered non-life-threatening injuries as a result. Police were dispatched to the scene shortly thereafter following a 911 hang-up and arrested him on site.

The accused was held in custody for a bail hearing.

Man accused of sexual assault/forcible confinement

Following an investigation into a sexual assault complaint reported to police on Friday afternoon, North Bay Police arrested:

A 55-year-old man at his North Bay residence on Saturday morning and charged him with:
One count of sexual assault; and
One count of forcible confinement.

It is alleged that the accused sexually assaulted a woman known to him at his residence on Sunday, April 3 and prevented her from leaving. The woman was able to contact a friend who arrived at the residence to help her leave. The victim and her friend left the scene together shortly thereafter.

The accused was released from custody with a court date scheduled for May 24, 2016.

Break & enter, thefts

The North Bay Police requests the public’s assistance in the following ongoing investigations.

Over the weekend, the North Bay Police Service received the following reports of break and enter, and thefts:

Break & Enter

On Saturday, April 16, at approximately 1:30 p.m. a woman returned home, after she was away for an hour and a half, to find two bicycles outside of her residence on Ferguson Street. She spoke to a man who standing at the side door who told her he was at the wrong address. A second man exited the side door of the building. After both left the scene, she entered her apartment unit and noticed that she was missing a laptop computer, a DVD player and jewellery.

The first male suspect is described as:
Approx. 5’-3” tall, about 100 lbs, Caucasian, 25-30 years old, slim build, shaggy black hair, wearing track pants.

The second male suspect is described as:
Approx. 6’0 tall, about 175-180 lbs, heavier build, about 50 years old, with short grey hair. He was wearing a blue baseball cap and carrying a duffle bag at the time.

Thefts

Sometime between 9:30 p.m. on Friday and 1:30 a.m. on Saturday, a purse was taken from a vehicle parked on Main Street East at Fisher.

Sometime overnight between Wednesday, April 13 and Thursday, April 14, a black and orange Emo “The Monster” e-bike was taken from a residence on Princess Street West.

Sometime before Saturday, a bicycle, tools and a bicycle trailer were taken from the shed of a residence on Galt Street.

Pedestrian struck

North Bay Police are seeking the public’s assistance in the following investigation.

On Thursday, April 14 at 9:10 a.m. a male pedestrian was walking across Fisher Street at Worthington when he was struck by a truck that was turning left from Worthington onto Fisher. The male driver checked on the victim and then left the scene. The victim sustained non-life-threatening injuries.

Police are looking to identify the driver and the vehicle.

The male driver is:
approximately 60 to 70 years old;
With white short hair and white facial hair;
Was wearing a black leather coat at the time.

The vehicle was described as a shiny silver/grey truck.

Female faces charges following complaint of suspected tampered Fentanyl patches

Following an investigation into a complaint from a local pharmacy regarding the receipt of suspected counterfeit Fentanyl patches, North Bay Police arrested a 59-year-old woman at her residence on Thursday, April 14, 2016 and charged her with:
Ten counts of fraud under $5,000; and
Ten counts of drug trafficking.

It is alleged that on ten occasions from August 2015 to February 2016, the accused brought in counterfeit Fentanyl patches to a local pharmacy in order to renew her prescription under the Patch4Patch program. She is also accused of trafficking Fentanyl patches, with a street value estimated at $33,750, during this time period.
 
The accused was released from custody with a court date scheduled for June 7, 2016.
