Hwy 400 closed after driver crashes into three OPP cruisers

One man was arrested after hitting an OPP spike belt then then crashing into three OPP vehicles.

It happened Monday at 1 p.m., as West Parry Sound OPP were on general patrol on Highway 69 north of Parry Sound. Officers tried to stop a southbound vehicle.

The vehicle failed to stop for police and continued to drive in an "erratic manner" says a news release.

"Officers set up a spike belt in the southbound lanes of Highway 400 at highway 559 Carling Township," said Constable Joe Scali."The spike belt was successfully deployed, however, the driver continued southbound and collided with three police cruisers before stopping."

Highway 400 southbound lanes were closed for approximately two hours while officers completed their investigation.

Shyheim Spence, 27, of Brampton is charged with:

  • Three counts of dangerous operation
  • Two counts of flight from a peace officer
  • Possession of proceeds of property obtained by crime under $5,000
  • Driving while under suspension

Spence is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Parry Sound on January 5, 2023.
