Half can of beer in driver's cupholder leads to impaired charge

On November 27 at 12:45 a.m. East Algoma OPP officers were on patrol in Elliot Lake when they saw a small blue car operating in a suspicious manner. 

The vehicle was stopped to check the sobriety of the driver. After speaking to her, police learned she was prohibited from driving and exhibited signs of alcohol consumption. A half-full can of beer was sitting in the cup holder.  

Subsequently, the driver was arrested and charged and the vehicle was towed and impounded.     

Angela Pearson, 48, of Elliot Lake is charged with:

  • Operation while prohibited under the Criminal Code
  • Driving a motor vehicle with an open container of liquor

Pearson is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Elliot Lake on February 6, 2023.
