Yesterday evening, North Bay Police were dispatched to the 300 block of Sixth Avenue West following a call from a dispatcher of a local taxi company reporting trouble involving one of their drivers.

Young person faces charges

Following an ongoing investigation, the North Bay Police Service arrested and charged a young person with two counts each of making, possessing and distributing child pornography. It is alleged that the young person captured explicit imagery of other young persons in October 2016 and shared the imagery with others.

The accused was held in custody for a bail hearing. In accordance with the Youth Criminal Justice Act, the North Bay Police Service will not be releasing any information that may lead to the identification of the young person accused of committing these crimes.

The North Bay Police Service encourages parents and guardians to inform their children that a sexually explicit photograph or video of a person under 18 years of age that is captured, saved, distributed or shared may be categorized as child pornography and may constitute a criminal offence.

Two men face assault charges

Yesterday evening, North Bay Police were dispatched to the 300 block of Sixth Avenue West following a call from a dispatcher of a local taxi company reporting trouble involving one of their drivers. Following an investigation, North Bay Police arrested and charged:

Jason Robert Hansman, age 34, of North Bay with:
One count of assault;
One count of assault police officer; and
Two counts of breach of probation.

Police also arrested and charged a 32-year-old North Bay man with one count of assault.

It is alleged that on Thursday, Nov. 17, 2016, shortly after 9 p.m., the accused assaulted the taxi driver while they were in his taxi. The taxi driver was not injured. Three patrol officers were immediately dispatched to the site, where they located both suspects, outside the taxi. It is also alleged that Hansman assaulted an officer during his arrest.

Hansman was held in custody pending a bail hearing, while the co-accused was released from custody with a court date scheduled for Dec. 27, 2016.

It is the North Bay Police Service’s policy to release the names of adults who are held in custody following an assault charge.
