A 37-year-old North Bay man was arrested on assault charges after an incident on July 31 in an Algonquin Avenue parking lot.

Police say that at 3:15 p.m. the two victims were verbally accosted by a man nearby, at which point the victims responded, then tried to leave the area.

The man then chased the victims and physically assaulted a male. The female tried to intervene in the assault, at which point the attacker assaulted her also.

The man fled the parking lot prior to police arrival but was arrested and charged later that day.

Both victims sustained minor, non-life threatening injuries, although the woman was taken to hospital for treatment of her injuries.

The attacker and the victims are not known to one another and no weapons were used in the assault say police.

Paul John Hillier, 37, of North Bay is charged with assault and assault causing bodily harm

Hillier was held in custody pending a bail hearing at the North Bay Courthouse.
