Village Media continues to expand its network of media outlets across Ontario with the launch of independent news site CollingwoodToday.ca.

Launched this morning, CollingwoodToday.ca will bring locally-driven news in real time to Collingwood.

Joining the Village Media news team in Collingwood is award-winning journalist Erika Engel, who is backed up by freelance contributors including longtime Simcoe County reporter Gisele Winton-Sarvis.

CollingwoodToday.ca will be served by Account Executive Stuart Snelgrove, under the leadership of Publisher John Hammill, and Regional Sales Manager Nicole Parkes.

CollingwoodToday.ca joins OrilliaMatters.com and BarrieToday.com as part of a growing Simcoe County presence. The news team also includes Community Editor Dave Dawson in Orillia, Reporter Raymond Bowe in Barrie, and regional Reporter Nathan Taylor.

Designed to be fast and easy to use whether you're on mobile, desktop or tablet, the site will provide breaking news, feature stories, obituaries, and other content from the region. The most current local news will be posted throughout the day, with national news provided by The Canadian Press.

CollingwoodToday is part of the Village Media network, which operates some of the largest online news sites in the communities it serves. The sites are driven by news and information that appeals to a highly engaged, loyal audience.

“We believe that locally-driven news is essential to communities. That’s why we’ve started or helped launch more than 10 digital news sites in communities just like Collingwood within the past few years — communities that in some cases were also told their local newspaper didn’t factor into someone else’s bottom line,” said Jeff Elgie, CEO of Village Media.  “We are proud to be extremely community-minded and cover important stories in your town. We have a great team in place and look forward to becoming an integrated part of the community’s daily news.”
