North Bay is gearing up for a special fundraising event at the Capitol Centre to support One Kids Place (OKP), a children's treatment centre. The evening promises to be a memorable experience with a live performance by the acclaimed tribute band, The Traveling Milburys.

The Traveling Milburys pays musical tribute to The Traveling Wilburys— the 80’s supergroup featuring George Harrison, Tom Petty, Roy Orbison, Jeff Lynne, and Bob Dylan – whose hits, including “Handle With Care”, were favourites of pop and rock stations in the late eighties.

The Milburys will be channelling the energy, excitement, and magic of the legendary band live at the Capitol Centre on Wednesday, November 15, 2023, at 7:30 pm.

You can catch a glimpse of the Milburys in concert on their website.

But this benefit concert is not just about the music. It's a celebration of inclusivity and a reminder of the power of community support.

At the heart of One Kids Place's mission is the commitment to providing quality services, resources, and equipment, — all made possible through the generosity of fundraised dollars from the community.

The staff at OKP takes pride in going above and beyond traditional therapies, aiming to enrich the lives of those they serve.

"Fundraising isn't just about dollars, it's about building opportunities to brighter futures," says Katharine Strang, Development Officer with One Kids Place.

"Our efforts have allowed us to offer remarkable programs, from Autism Summer Camps to a sensory-friendly outdoor playground. We've pioneered a one-of-a-kind Loan Equipment Program, providing essential resources and therapy tools to families and schools, and facilitated social interaction group opportunities like robotics camps and One Kids Crew”

“The Family Support Program is an important new initiative,” Strang says. “It offers crucial financial assistance to families navigating the challenges of raising children with diverse needs."

Why is it so crucial to support One Kids Place?

The answer lies in the life-changing therapy journeys and services they provide to children. The centre offers a range of programs, including Autism Services, Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy, Speech-Language Pathology, Social Work and Therapeutic Recreation.

These interventions are tailored to meet the individual needs of each child, aiming not only to address their immediate therapy goals but also to empower them for a better future.

Parents and caregivers also will find solace in the supportive environment at One Kids Place, where a team of dedicated professionals works tirelessly to ensure that each child receives the best care possible. The funds generated from events like the Traveling Milburys concert contribute to maintaining and expanding these crucial services.

But it's not just about the individual therapies – OKP puts effort into helping build a network that uplifts and empowers. OKP believes in being an active participant in community events and awareness opportunities, seizing every chance to shed light on their mission. These efforts are another key element in the organization's commitment to supporting families, whether they are actively receiving services, or are yet to discover the resources available.

OKP's collaboration with BenefitShow.net and the upcoming concert underscores the team's commitment to going beyond traditional therapies. The funds raised will contribute directly to sustaining and expanding services such as autism summer camps, sensory-friendly outdoor playgrounds, and the unique Loan Equipment Program, among others.

The event is not only a musical trip down memory lane, but also a chance for the community to rally around a cause that touches the lives of its youngest members.

By attending the fundraiser, you’ll not only enjoy an evening of musical hits, but also contribute to the well-being of children in need.

Let's come together for an evening of melody and meaning, as The Traveling Milburys set the stage for a brighter and healthier future for the children of North Bay.
