The West Ferris Trojans hosted Algonquin Barons in one of two semi-final NDA Sr. Boys soccer matches Tuesday night.

The Trojans were in tough against an Algonquin team which refused to quit. Striker Sandy Burke staked the Trojans to an early 1-0 lead, scoring on a beautiful pass from Shayne Karn just six minutes into the game. Both sides exchanged several chances in the first half but solid defense and excellent goaltending prevented any further scoring in the half. At the 3 minute mark of the second half Jeremy Andrews and Karn combined to set up Scott Britton to put the home side up 2-0. David Piquette took advantage of a rare defensive mistake by the Trojans to bring the Barons to within one goal. Despite a number of good chances by both teams the game ended in a 2-1 victory for West Ferris. The Trojans' coaches and players know that they will have to bring their game to the next level in the NDA final where they will host the winner of the Franco Cite - Scollard Hall game.

Patriotes heading to final

The Franco Cite Patriotes are moving into the final to meet the West Ferris Trojans after they edged the St. Joseph-Scollard Hall Bears 3-2 Tuesday in the other NDA Sr. Boys semi-final which took place in Sturgeon Falls.

The Patriotes and Trojans will clash in the NDA final on Thursday, May 31st at West Ferris. Game time is 4:30 p.m.
