The Temiscaming Royals Main Camp begins Friday night for the expansion Greater Metro Junior "A" team. Close to a dozen North Bay area kids will be attending the camp taking place at Le Centre in Temiscaming, including signed Royals players like former North Bay Trappers Chris Hebert and goaltender Andre Laperriere.

For Royals Head coach and General Manager Steve McCharles who started up the new GMHL team, it’s a weekend he's been looking forward to for a long time.

“We are getting a significant number of calls and quality players interested in coming to the camp,” said McCharles about the three-day camp.

“It will give us a good opportunity to see what we have. I think we’ll have more than just a competitive hockey team this year based on the kids that we have coming to camp.”

McCharles adds that players aged 15 to 20 interested in trying out are still welcome on Saturday. Saturday’s camp starts at 10 a.m. in Temiscaming and will wrap up Sunday with a pair of ice sessions.
