Miller named Hockey Canada Official of the Year

Ken Miller of North Bay, ON has been named the 2006-07 Hockey Canada Official of the Year. Miller has been a hockey official for over 30 years and his career includes work at the regional, national and international levels.
Ken Miller of North Bay, ON has been named the 2006-07 Hockey Canada Official of the Year. Miller has been a hockey official for over 30 years and his career includes work at the regional, national and international levels. He was Director of Officials with the Northern Ontario Hockey Association from 1986-1996 and was a member of the Canadian Hockey Association’s Officials Committee from 1988-1992. Since 1990, Miller has been a supervisor/instructor with the Ontario Hockey League and has been on the OHL’s Referees’ Committee since 2000.

Miller also has been involved in a number of programs that promote officiating, including the Big Brothers Mentoring Program in the NOHA. Among the awards he has won during his career are the Judge Harry Reynolds Award (dedication to hockey in North Bay), Pete Palangio Sportsman of the Year (the highest sports award given out by the North Bay Sports Hall of Fame), Province of Ontario – Corps D’Elite ( June 1992 ) for excellence in volunteer work and the Queen’s Jubilee Medal.

The Hockey Canada Officiating Award proudly recognizes an official, active or non-active, who has made an outstanding contribution to officiating. This person is identified as one who has had a notable impact on the game at the Branch and National level and one who has been involved for a minimum of twenty-five (25) years as an official/ administrator. This award is presented annually at the Association’s Annual General Meeting. The inaugural Hockey Canada Officiating Award was presented in 2005.
