Another member of the Powassan Voodoos graduating class is moving on to college hockey.
Cameron Lemcke, who is in his fourth season with the Voodoos; starting as an affiliate with the club in 2019-20, has committed to join the Sault College Cougars for the 2024-25 season.
In 51 games this season, the versatile power forward has 16 goals and 37 assists for 53 points.
Over his 134 regular season games with the Voodoos, the Callander, Ontario product has accumulated 39 goals and 79 assists for 114 points.
Peter Goulet, Voodoos head coach, believes the commitment is well deserved.
Cameron has been a staple in the Powassan Voodoos organization for the last three years, he has been one of the team's leaders since he joined the Voodoos,” he said.
“This year Cameron has had a great season he has been in the top three scoring all season, he has played left wing, right wing, centre and defence and I know if I asked him he would be a goalie for us.
“He has been a leader for us all season especially after we lost our captain Alex Little for 3 months due to a broken arm. Cameron is a true gentleman and someone that you just love to be around, and a really good hockey player to go with that. Congratulations Cameron well deserved, I know he had a couple of choices of schools and I think Sault College is a perfect fit.
“Myself along with the Powassan Voodoos players and staff are all very happy for him. We still have unfinished business to complete,” added Goulet who takes pride in helping his players go to the next level.
Lemcke says his time with the Voodoos is filled with great memories he will keep forever.
“I want to thank all the coaches that helped me develop into the player that I am today and all the teammates that I have built bonds with through my 3 years of being with the Voodoos,” said Lemcke.
“To be able to keep playing hockey and to get an education at Sault College is amazing. I cannot wait to get started on my next journey to see what the future holds But I can’t get too far ahead of myself we still have unfinished business to complete this year.”
Lemcke joins teammates Tucker Shields (Liberty) and Carson Ricci (Fredonia State) to already commit to college/university hockey programs for next season.
The Sault College Cougars, who play in the ACHA Division II in the U.S., had an overall record of 22-6 and a +103-goal differential in 2023-24. The Cougars season came to a close at the ACHA Division II Regionals in late February.
