Eurocamp Summer Stars Team 2000 shines

The Eurocamp Summer Stars Team 2000 captured the AA final in the King of the Ring Summer Hockey Tournament at York University on the weekend.

The Young Stars defeated the Kingston Coyotes 7-6 in overtime thanks to a Gavin Shaw game winner. The Stars led 5-2 at one point and fell behind 6-5 before making the late comeback and sending the game into 3 on 3 overtime.

Team 2000 made it to the AA final after dropping a 9-7 decision in the AAA semi-final to a Southern Ontario based team coached by Curtis Joseph and Nik Antropov.

“This was a great experience for our young kids playing summer hockey for the first time and leaves us with a positive attitude for next spring,” said Eurocamp Summer Stars coach Randy Edmonds.

Local players on Team 2000 include Gavin Shaw, Braedan Staples, Lucas Edmonds, Anthony Goulais , Riley Audet, Jacob Gravelle, Matt Desjardins, Dylan Bond and Brian Coughlin .

The Eurocamp Summer Stars were also represented in two other age categories. The Stars Team 1998 fell in the quarter-finals but managed one victory in round-robin action.

The Team 94’s lost in the AAA semi-final game 4-2 to the Owen Sound Attack. It was the Attack’s second consecutive championship in the 1994 age category.

Edmonds says goaltender Timmy Falconi was solid in goal keeping the game close.
