The Nipissing Alouettes wrapped up a two-day summer mini-camp on Tuesday afternoon at Pete Palangio arena.

The Greater Metro Junior “A” team looked at around a dozen local hockey players who came out for the four hours of ice time.

Alouettes rookie head coach Marc St-Georges believes it’s a nice fit for the Sturgeon Falls club to come to North Bay for a camp, especially with another Junior “A” franchise in the same league now located just down highway 63 in Temiscaming.

“We just want to peak the players interest and let them know we are icing a team again this year and see if we can get a better response from the local kids,” said St-Georges at the end of the two-hour practice on Tuesday afternoon.

“We are looking at their overall abilities, we aren’t looking for snipers or anyone in particular I’d rather work with the guys and help them evolve throughout their game and help them out with their abilities and try to shape and mold them into good hockey players.”

The Alouettes will open their main camp in the final week of August.
