Ronald ‘Ronnie’ Dalton Yerkie passed peacefully at the age of 93 at Eastholme for the Aged on September 18th, 2023 feeling the presence and love of his wife, children and grandchildren who will continue to honour his legacy by living their life to the fullest.

Thank you Dad and Papa,

Thank you for the wonderful years you dedicated to our Mom Shirley Yerkie and for giving us such a good start in life in a loving home.

Thank you for being the ‘best dad ever’ to Randy (Darlene), Cindy (Reg), Shelly (Marlon) and Leeanne (Chris). We always felt your love and are so grateful for teaching us by example the values of hard work, loyalty, integrity, friendships, and that most rules are meant to be broken. In our eyes you are a true hero. Your grandchildren Bobbi-Sue, Brandon, Billi Jo, Krystin, and Benjamin will lovingly remember you sitting in the stands at every hockey game, making pancakes at the camp in Restoule and how you always stole their noses. Your great grandchildren Dakota, Jayde, Parker, Aiden, Mya, Ryder, Avery, Austin, Maverick, and Emma will remember your big laugh and how you spoiled them with too many treats. Your great-great grandson Hudson will hear all the stories of how lucky it was to be loved by you.

Thank you for your example of hard work. Whether it was building a welding business, a house or an ice shack; the work started at 5:00 a.m. sharp and you better pack a lunch because the work will be done when it’s done. You taught us there are no such thing as short cuts, quitting is not an option, and that life gives you what you work for.

Thank you for passing along your passion for fishing and hunting. We know you loved the chase but everyone could see your greatest catch was the friends and family who walked alongside you on those crispy mornings and the dusky nights.

Thank you for the love of the game of hockey. You never missed a game and no one cheered louder than you. We’re all hoping you’re the angel the Leafs need to win the Cup this year!

Thank you for your wisdom and for being a life teacher. We promise to keep the furnace below 69, to keep the damn fridge door shut, to change the water in the minnows, to put our tools away where they belong, and if something is broken, we’ll fix it.

Thank you for showing us how to finish a race. You have accomplished the work that life set out for you and now you are free once again to return to the ridges, the valleys and the soft and hard waters you deserve and love so much.

Friends and family are invited to wear their best plaid to the Celebration of Life for Ron on Saturday, November 25th from Noon to 3:00 p.m. at the Powassan Legion. In memory of Ron and to honour our favourite fisherman, guests can contribute a cash donation to the Lake Nipissing Stakeholder’s Association at the celebration.
