In his 98th year, Bill passed peacefully in the loving arms of his daughter on Sunday August 9, 2020. Predeceased by his wife Thelma (2009), daughter Heather (2017), parents John and Isabella and sister Marion (2012). Bill is survived by his sister Sheila in England, his daughter Shelagh (Brian Dykstra), his son Doug (Marnie), grandchildren Josh, Alan, Kate (Anthony), Jamie (Kayla), Katie (Aaron), Jamie (Jenni) and Anna Mary (Tony) and several great grandchildren. Bill is deeply loved by his family in Great Britain, nephew Martyn (Clare) and their children and niece Sylvia (John).

Bill was a veteran of the Royal Navy, serving as a signalman in on a mine sweeper during WW2 primarily in the Mediterranean. He immigrated to Canada in 1951 and met Thelma in Toronto, where they married in 1952. After moving to North Bay, Bill worked at DuPont, from which he retired over 30 years later. Bill was always very active in the community, and was a member of the Lions Club and a charter member of the West Ferris Legion Branch 599. His family always came first, and we enjoyed many summers camping and many winters skiing with our best friend Dad.

In retirement, he and Thelma loved to travel, visiting his family in England many times, as well as trips to Europe, the USA and Bermuda. They were also strong supporters of the arts, enjoying concerts by the North Bay Symphony and the Choral Society, as well as annual trips to Stratford. The church was also an important part of their lives, and Bill’s service to the communities of St. Brice’s and St. John’s was valued by many.

As per his wishes, a private family service will be held at the HILLSIDE FUNERAL SERVICES on Monday, August 17th .

As expressions of sympathy, donations to the North Bay Symphony or the Stratford Festival would be gratefully appreciated by the family.
