The Heritage Gardeners will be celebrating nineteen years of success at our Nineteenth Annual Heritage Gardeners Volunteer Appreciation Luncheon/Symposium on Sunday April 3, 2016 at the Clarion Pinewood Park Resort from 10:30-2:30.

Our Guest Speaker is Sean James whose topic is “What to do with a downpour: Ornamental ways to deal with rain water” which speaks to rain gardening. Sean has been gardening professionally since he was sixteen and speaking to horticultural societies since 1991 when he graduated from the Niagara Parks School of Horticulture. He runs his own landscaping business, Fern Ridge Landscaping & Eco-consulting, and is a 2X past president of the Milton & District Horticultural Society. He designed the sustainable Anderson Parkette in Oakville and several other landmark gardens. He also writes eco-gardening columns for a local magazine, Niagara Escarpment Views, a national column in Landscape Trades on Eco-landscaping for professionals and in the global digital newsletter for the Perennial Plant Association. He’s also a Master Gardener.

Mayor Al McDonald will also make presentations of Certificates of Appreciation to our dedicated volunteers who have served for the community for five, ten and fifteen years.

In 1999 the Heritage Gardener’s Organization created the Honorary Heritage Gardener of the Year Award to recognize an individual or group in the community who is not a Heritage Gardener. The worthy recipient would exemplify our motto “Community Sprit in Full Bloom”, has demonstrated stewardship of the environment and has reached out beyond their back yard. Nominations can only be made by Heritage Gardener Volunteers. This years Honorary Heritage Gardener is Sue Buckle.

Members of the public are welcome to join us for lunch at a cost of $35.00 or the speaker only for $10.00. The deadline for registration is March 21, 2016 and payment must be received by that date. Contact our office at 705-472-4006 or [email protected] to register
