Man driving a golf cart facing impaired charges

Further investigation revealed that the driver had consumed alcoholic beverages

A 57-year-old James Township man is facing impaired charges after being pulled over while driving his golf cart.

Temiscaming OPP officers were conducting what they call "proactive patrols" in the town of Elk Lake on July 3 around 8:30 p.m. 

The OPP says officers stopped a golf cart on Lake Street and further investigation revealed that the driver had consumed alcoholic beverages. 

As a result, Wayne Smith, a 57-year-old resident of James Township has been arrested and charged with:

  • Operation while impaired - blood alcohol concentration (80 plus), contrary to section 320.14(1)(b) of the Criminal Code (CC), and
  • Operation while impaired - alcohol and drugs, contrary to section 320.14(1)(a) of the CC.

The accused was released by way of an Undertaking and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice on August 25, 2020 in the City of Temiskaming Shores.
