A well-known member of the Conseil scolaire catholique Franco-Nord administration team is calling it a career in the fall of 2024.

Éric Foisy, Superintendent of Education, will be officially retiring on Sept. 1.

Foisy, who studied at Ottawa University, began his teaching career in New Liskeard in 1990 after spending three years with Up With People as an intercultural leadership educator.

Originally from the area, he returned to North Bay to hold various positions at École secondaire catholique Algonquin, as a teacher, cultural advisor and vice-principal.

Foisy then became Principal at École élémentaire catholique Sainte-Anne in North Bay before assuming the position of Principal for the Effectiveness Framework at CSCFN, where he was subsequently made Superintendent of Education in 2010.

In this role, he supervised various schools, ensuring their smooth operation, a positive school climate and delivering quality French-language Catholic education.

Foisy was also responsible for a variety of systemic responsibilities, including a passion for Safe Schools and Experiential and Deep Learning. Involved in his school community, he was President of the network of Francophone Superintendents of Education for four years, President of the Education committee at Office provincial de l'éducation catholique de l'Ontario (OPÉCO), founding president of the Regional Committee of Superintendents of Education and served on various provincial committees.

"Throughout his mandate, Mr. Foisy has always put the needs of students first, and dedicated himself to transforming current and innovative learning," a CSCFN release stated.

Mr. Serge Levac, Director of Education, offered his congratulations.

"On behalf of the entire Franco-Nord family, I would like to thank Mr. Éric Foisy for his many contributions to French-language Catholic education, to CSCFN’s local and provincial reputation, and to the growth and success of our students," said Levac.

"I am truly grateful for the magnificent work he has accomplished over his long career, and for his commitment to the Board's vision, mission, and values. Mr. Foisy is a true leader in his profession. I wish him health and happiness in this new chapter of his life."

Mr. Foisy will officially retire on Sept. 1. The position from which he is stepping down will be posted on the board website.
