Drunk driver arrested going wrong way on Highway 400

Orillia OPP has arrested and charged a Sudbury man after several concerned citizens reported a vehicle driving the wrong way on a divided highway.

Shortly before 11 p.m. yesterday, police received several urgent calls reporting that a vehicle was driving northbound in the southbound lanes of Highway 400, near Duckworth Street, Barrie. Police responded rapidly and were able to stop the vehicle. 

As a result of the subsequent investigation, Kevin Rayner, 41, of Sudbury is charged with:

  • Operation while impaired - alcohol
  • Operation while impaired - blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
  • Dangerous operation
  • Driving a motor vehicle with liquor readily available

Rayner was released on a Form 10 undertaking and is set to appear in court on June 16 in Orillia.

OPP  are thanking all of the concerned citizens that acted quickly to report this dangerous event. "Your actions helped police resolve this occurrence swiftly and without injury to the accused or members of the public," said a news release.
