Transition Town North Bay will be demonstrating the online version of their new Local Farm Map at the Seed Exchange and EcoFair Saturday February 26th, 1-4pm at St. Andrew’s United Church.

Transition Town North Bay is part of an expanding International grass-roots movement that believes that environmental issues cannot be considered separately from energy and economic issues.

By helping our local residents reconnect with local agriculture, we are helping to reduce carbon emissions by reducing the amount of miles food has to travel from the farmers’ fields to our dinner plates, and at the same time, helping to build a more resilient local economy. By building this kind of economic re-localization, North Bay will be in a better position to withstand rising energy prices.

Over the past several decades, many of our local farmers have found it difficult to compete against larger agricultural operations in southern climates. But increases in the cost of transportation fuels and high food price inflation are expected to bring food production closer to home.

One of the barriers preventing people from buying local food is that we simply don’t know where our local farms are. The local farm map project will help our local eaters re-connect with our local growers.
