VIDEO: Clean, Green, Beautiful gears up for 5th community-wide cleanup

It's a big year for Clean, Green, Beautiful North Bay and Communities in Bloom as national judges will be in town from July 28–30 — North Bay achieved 5 Blooms last year in the provincial competition

Clean, Green, Beautiful North Bay (CGB) has announced the launch of its 2024 season.

North Bay citizens have collectively removed over 38,000 bags of litter over the past five years. Deputy Mayor Maggie Horsfield delivered greetings and thanks from the City of North Bay for the group's hard work.

CGB Chair Hariett Madigan noted, "It's pretty hard to create community connection when you're standing in litter."

The community-wide cleanup will take place on April 20–21. The CGB team will be at Parker's Independent Grocers on Saturday, April 20 from 9 a.m. until noon to hand out bags for those wanting to participate.

Clean, Green, Beautiful biodegradable bags are free of charge and can also be ordered on their Facebook group or at cleangreenbeautiful.com

"Since 2019, businesses and organizations have stepped up to sponsor our CGB bags and many of these sponsors are doing their own pickups with their employees, patrons and students, and getting involved in beautifying and greening their own spaces," said Madigan. Find the list of sponsors below.

The Clean, Green, Beautiful committee is asking for teams or individuals to send photos of their pick-ups to cleangreenbeautifulnb@gmail.com to post them on social media to include for the Communities In Bloom national judges to see when they visit.

Communities In Bloom lead for this year, Coun. Jamie Lowery announced that the national judges will be in North Bay from July 28–30.

"We were able to achieve '5 Blooms' in last year's provincial competition because of the volunteers within our community who worked with the city. It's about collaboration and we look forward to showcasing everything North Bay has to offer," Lowery said.

Madigan and Lowery discuss the community-wide cleanups and Communities in Bloom in the video above.

Clean, Green, Beautiful North Bay, now recognized as a non-profit organization, continues to work with sponsors and organizations for litter pick-ups, planting community gardens and orchards, and engaging in streetscapes.
