Tractor-trailer driver faces multiple charges in Highway 11 stop

According to the Almaguin OPP, this tractor-trailer operated by a North Bay driver was pulled over on Highway 11 in the Township of Strong after several complaints from drivers.

A transport driver has been charged with impaired driving after multiple traffic complaints about the truck travelling on Highway 11 in the Township of Strong on March 14.

Almaguin Highlands OPP found and stopped the tractor-trailer, loaded with logs, shortly after 5:50 p.m. The officer determined that the driver had been consuming alcohol and was arrested and taken to the detachment for further testing.

Theodore Savarie, 52, of North Bay, is charged with:

  • Operation while impaired
  • Operation while impaired - blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
  • Drive motor vehicle with an open container of liquor
  • Drive commercial motor vehicle in contravention of conditions
  • Drive vehicle with cannabis readily available

Savarie was released from police custody and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice on Thursday, April 25 in Sundridge.

The driver was issued a 90-day administrative driver's licence suspension, and the vehicle was impounded for seven days.
