Installing a vehicle satellite tracking system paid off for a local car owner this week.

On Saturday, March 23 at 5 p.m., North Bay Police officers responded to a call involving a stolen vehicle.

"It became apparent that a female, who was known to the victim, was at the residence and stole the victim’s wallet, phone, car keys and $200 cash, while the victim was asleep, says Cst. Merv Shantz in a news release.

"The accused then stole the victim’s 2018 Toyota Camry, which had two firearms located inside."

Police began their investigation, and just before 8 a.m. the next morning, police got a call from a vehicle satellite company, indicating it was tracking the stolen vehicle in the area of McIntyre Street East.

Police found the vehicle, and arrested a woman. One of the two firearms was recovered at that time as well as small quantities of three controlled substances. The woman had previously been banned from possessing firearms.

  • 0.4 grams of crystal methamphetamine
